CORNHOLE FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

As cornhole continues to grow in popularity, it's natural for players, enthusiasts, and newcomers to have questions about the game. Let's dive into some of the most frequently asked questions in cornhole and unravel the mysteries surrounding this beloved backyard game.

WHAT IS CORNHOLE?

Cornhole is a game where you throw square bags filled with corn or resin pellets at a raised slanted platform with a hole in it. The objective is to toss the bags into the hole or land them on the platform while scoring points based on their placement.

WHAT ARE OTHER NAMES FOR CORNHOLE?

Cornhole has been called many different names like Bean Bag Toss, Bag Toss, Tailgate Toss, Bags, Beanbag Game, Backyard Toss, and probably many more names depending on where you live. Whatever you call it, it's one of the fastest-growing, addictive sports in the country! With a game that anyone can play whether you are young or old, it's a game everyone can get behind.

HOW DO YOU SCORE IN CORNHOLE?

Each cornhole bag that goes through the hole is worth three points, and each bag that lands on the board and remains there until the end of the round is worth one point. Cancellation scoring is used so the difference in points in each round is the points scored (for example if team A scores 8 points and team B scores 5 points, team A ends the round with a score of 3). The points are accumulated for each team and the first team to 21 points wins.

WHAT ARE THE OFFICIAL CORNHOLE BAG SPECIFICATIONS?

According to the American Cornhole League (ACL) regulations, cornhole bags should be made of durable fabric, measuring 6x6 inches and weigh between 15.5 to 16.25 ounces. The bags should also be filled with synthetic resin pellets. Regulation cornhole bags with the official ACL Stamp have been tested and approved by the ACL so you can be sure they are official regulation size.

WHAT ARE THE BASIC RULES OF CORNHOLE?

The basic rules of cornhole involve alternating turns between teams, with each player throwing four bags per round. Players must remain behind the foul line while throwing, and they cannot step past the front of the board until their bag has landed. The team that reaches or exceeds 21 points first is declared the winner. A team can consist of a single player or 2 players. To read the official ACL Rules, check out our Cornhole Rules page.

HOW FAR APART SHOULD THE CORNHOLE BOARDS BE PLACED?

The official rules state that the distance between pro cornhole boards is 27 feet for professional play.

CAN YOU PLAY CORNHOLE INDOORS?

Yes! Cornhole can be played indoors, outdoors and everywhere in between! As long as you have enough space for the boards and enough height clearance for throwing the bags and not hitting the ceiling or ceiling fan (this is advice from personal experience) to prevent damage to your bags, you can set & play!

IS THERE A RIGHT WAY TO THROW BAGS?

The only requirement is that bags are thrown underhand. Other than that, you can toss those bags any way you like! While learning to play you may observe many different styles of throwing but the main thing to keep in mind is finding a toss that YOU are comfortable with.

CAN CORNHOLE BAGS BE CUSTOMIZED?

Absolutely! Many cornhole players choose to personalize their cornhole bags with custom logos or images. Customization adds a unique touch and makes identifying your bags much easier.
